Stage six of the men’s cycle race will see the riders start in Gander Road in Tewkesbury, take a route through the borough, and onwards to finish in the city of Gloucester.

With the start and finish locations separated by a little over 10 miles, fans will easily be able to attend both on race day, which will further add to the atmosphere at this free-to-watch sporting spectacle.

The route leaves Tewkesbury town centre, where there will be various celebrations for the start of the race, and cyclists will pass through the borough’s countryside, including through the villages of Bishop’s Cleeve and Winchcombe.

The Tour of Britain is the UK’s biggest and most prestigious bike race that attracts the world’s top cyclists – including Olympic and World Champions, and Tour de France winners. It forms part of the UCI ProSeries, making it one of the most important events on the road-racing calendar.

The Tewkesbury Borough Council is supporting the logistics of the race, as well as bringing together a range of activities at the starting point, which will bring local cycling enthusiasts and visitors to the borough.

Cllr Rob Bird, leader of Tewkesbury Borough Council, said: “We hosted a fantastic event for the women’s race in June and I am delighted that, yet again, the borough of Tewkesbury will play such an important part in the prestigious Tour of Britain.

“Hosting this race is a great way to highlight our wonderful borough and all that it has to offer. Events like these provide a significant boost to tourism, a major part of our local economy, and equally deliver a great opportunity for local people to be involved in a national event.

“I am sure that residents and visitors alike will enjoy the atmosphere this race will bring at the start in Tewkesbury town, and along the route.”

Coverage of the race will also be shown worldwide on Eurosport and GCN.
