Cate Cody

Councillor (South Ward), Borough Councillor, County Councillor

I have lived in Tewkesbury since 1993 and feel honoured to represent the people of this town.

I have many years of experience in the environmental sector, am an expert in recycling and waste reduction and have visited most of the relevant facilities in the area.

I have been involved in various community projects for a number of years and as a councillor I am particularly interested in helping people to adopt greener ways of living, as I believe it makes both us and the planet healthier and happier. I also champion our many wonderful natural spaces; The Ham, Tewkesbury Nature Reserve and the footpaths and river walks that we are blessed with. I’m a strong advocate of walking and cycling and keen to promote and make them safer, more appealing modes of transport for everyone.

I believe in putting our wellbeing and the environment first, highlighting our changing climate and pressing for the implementation of emergency measures.

My public speaking talk is based on my own journey of achieving almost zero waste as well as various aspects of green living – transport, health, education, community engagement, politics etc.

I am also a musician. A singer, bandleader and event organiser, (1930s American Jazz) and I am fortunate to have performed in many of the splendid venues around our county and beyond.

Tewkesbury is a friendly place and there is a great sense of community here which I would like to help preserve and strengthen. We have our beautiful Abbey, a world famous Medieval Festival, a thriving Repair Cafe and lots of interesting, independent shops, cafes and restaurants, plus a theatre and two rivers.

At the Town Council, I sit on the Severn Ham committee, chair the Climate Action working group, am one of the representatives for the Tewkesbury Town Regeneration Project and I am the representative for CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England).

I am also a Borough Councillor for Tewkesbury South and I am a member of the following committees and working groups:

Audit and Governance and Standards Committees, Climate Change and Flood Risk Management Group, Horsford Trust Management Committee, Tewkesbury Garden Town Member Reference Panel, Spring Gardens and Oldbury Road Regeneration Member Reference Group, Planning Policy Reference Panel and Tewkesbury Borough Plan Working Group.

Additionally, I have recently become Tewkesbury’s County Councillor and I am a member of the following committees: Adult Social Care and Communities Scrutiny Committee and Safety and Licensing Committee.
