2020 has been a year like no other we have experienced. The current restrictions on large gatherings mean that unfortunately we are not able to meet as normal to remember and parade together on Sunday 8th November, but that does not mean that Tewkesbury won’t be remembering.
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to find a suitable and legal alternative way of holding our Remembrance Service.
A small service will be held in Tewkesbury Abbey. Due to social distancing requirements the numbers able to attend will be very limited and it will be by invitation only.
However, we will be live streaming the event via the Abbey webpages, so please do join us to ‘virtually’ Remember and the retiring collection for the Royal British Legion will now take place via their website https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/ways-to-give/donate. With many poppy sellers unable to go door to door this year, the Royal British Legion would greatly appreciate any support you are able to give them.
Again, due to the current ‘rule of six’ there will be no wreath laying around the Memorial Cross this year, however, if you would like to lay a personal wreath at the War Memorial in the Abbey, the Abbey will be open for you to do so from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Sunday 8th November. The wreaths will then be transferred to the Cross by 11th November.
