Tewkesbury Borough Council will remember all those who served and gave their lives for our freedom on Monday, 11 November 2024, Armistice Day.
A short ceremony led by Reverend David Coulton will be held by the flagpoles outside the Public Services Centre in Tewkesbury at 11am on Monday, 11 November.
The Last Post will be played before a two minute silence and wreath laying from members of the armed forces, Gloucestershire Constabulary and local nursery and school children.
Cllr Philip Workman, Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough, said: “I’m proud to be leading this year’s commemoration for our borough as we join with millions of our fellow citizens, young and old, in silent tribute to the countless countrymen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the two world wars and in other conflicts since 1945.
“I hope many residents and businesses will pay their respects in whichever way they choose for Armistice Day.’’
Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) Karl Ray, based at HQ ARRC Imjin Barracks – Innsworth, added: “I’m honoured to join the Mayor, fellow service and ex-service personnel, our young people and residents, to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have gone before us and to think about those currently keeping us safe.”
Services around the borough can be found at the Visit Tewkesbury website.
Earlier this year the council pledged to support the armed forces community in our borough, Cllr Alex Hegenbarth Lead Member for Community and Housing said: “We signed the covenant to reaffirm our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
“We owe our past and present armed forces personnel an enormous debt of gratitude for their tireless work in recent years both here in the UK and abroad, from their invaluable assistance throughout the Covid epidemic, to cooperating with our allies to help promote peace and security around the world.”
