Project Alleycat unveil their new mosaic

The Cheshire Cat is a character from Alice in Wonderland. In the book, the cat appears and then disappears leaving only its grin.

The mosaic portrays the whole cat, then a series of grins, interwoven by a quotation from the book:

“Well! I’ve often seen a cat without a grin,’ thought Alice ‘but a grin without a cat! It’s the most curious thing I ever saw in my life!”

The Cat joins a series of unique works of art decorating the many alleys of Tewkesbury, including a copy of the “The Alleys & Courts of Tewkesbury” map, also in Warder’s Alley.

  • The tiles were produced by pupils from Alderman Knight School, Tewkesbury.
  • Eastnor Pottery designed the work, and fired the tiles.
  • The project was sponsored by “Can Do”, Leonard Cheshire Disability.
  • Alleycat received assistance for this work from Bookworm, Tewkesbury & M&Co Ltd
  • Project Alleycat, a community group, exists to promote interest in, and revitalise the historic alleyways of Tewkesbury.
